The journal of Mass Communication and Society invited APPC Research Director Daniel Romer and a half-dozen other scholars to comment on the latest Scholarly Milestones essay, “Cultivation at 50” by Michael Morgan, Richard Perloff, Andy Ruddock, and James Shanahan. “Morgan and colleagues ‘Cultivation at 50’ provide a historical overview of cultivation theory and its impact over the past 50 years,” Romer said. “Here, I take an even broader view of the theory’s evolution with implications for future research in cultivation theory. I also take note of how mainstreaming, a most important feature of the theory, has not only evolved but remains to be fully appreciated by cultivation researchers.” Among the other authors are Robin Nabi, a graduate of Penn’s Annenberg School for Communication (ASC) and an APPC distinguished research fellow, and Larry Gross, formerly a professor at ASC.
