LAIC Is New Home for the Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools

The Annenberg Public Policy Center’s Leonore Annenberg Institute for Civics is pleased to announce that it is the new administrative home of the Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools (www.civicmissionofschools.org), a coalition of over 70 national organizations and scholars dedicated to strengthening civic learning in America’s schools. The Campaign is co-chaired by Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and former Congressman Lee Hamilton. This administrative move allows the Campaign to take advantage of the institutional association with the Leonore Annenberg Institute for Civics, providing stability to the Campaign’s day-to-day operations.

“We are very gratified by Dr. Jamieson’s offer to join the Leonore Annenberg Institute for Civics and excited by the potential synergies between the Institute and CMS,” commented CMS Steering Committee Chair, Dr. Mabel McKinney-Browning (American Bar Association). “The CMS Executive Committee voted to make this positive move and to express our deep appreciation to the National Council for the Social Studies and NCSS Executive Director, Susan Griffin, for providing CMS with an administrative home for the past three years.”

“The Leonore Annenberg Institute for Civics, the Annenberg Public Policy Center, and Dr. Kathleen Hall Jamieson have been long-time champions of high quality civic learning for all of our nation’s students,” said CMS Executive Director Ted McConnell. “The Campaign is honored to be a part of the superb programs of the Leonore Annenberg Institute for Civics.” CMS will continue to operate as a coalition of organizations and individuals dedicated to changing policies, improving practice, and raising the profile of civic learning to strengthen civic learning for all students in the nation.
