Policy Center Hosts American Academy Discussion on Public Face of Research

How does the public view scientific research? That was the focus of an American Academy of Arts & Sciences roundtable discussion hosted by the Annenberg Public Policy Center on Oct. 5 and attended by Philadelphia-region members of the Academy.

The meeting on the public face of research was introduced by Nora Newcombe, Laura H. Carnell Professor of Psychology at Temple University, and featured a discussion moderated by Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center. Reflections on the public’s view of research were offered by Penn political science professor and Associate Dean of Social Sciences Rogers Smith, Penn English and comparative literature professor Jean-Michel Rabaté, and Temple psychology professor and Distinguished University Professor Laurence Steinberg.
